I’m in awe of the woman to my left who speaks so eloquently and isn’t intimidated …
What Krista’s community is saying about her!

Emma
Sitting in my first school council meeting back in 2012, I am in awe of the woman to my left who speaks so eloquently and isn’t intimidated by the principal who has a very strong personality. This lady is able to discuss matters and speak on behalf of the parents and the children with compassion, knowledge and a great sense of intellect.
“Who is that lady?”, I ask my friend.
“That’s KRISTA SCOTT, she’s our chair of school council”.
Over our years at FULTONVALE school, KRISTA SCOTT was the voice with and for our children and parents. I can confidently tell people this lady will work diligently as your Public School Trustee.

I had the pleasure of working with Krista through our School Council, where her commitment to accountability, and meaningful parental engagement truly stood out. She consistently looked beyond surface-level issues to understand how decisions about funding, and policies impacted families across the division. Krista approaches education with integrity, and a genuine desire to make the system better for all students. She values collaboration and strives to ensure parents have a clear voice and role within the Education Act.She has strong sense of responsibility that makes her an excellent candidate for Public School Trustee. I have every confidence that Krista will bring the same level of dedication and care to representing our community that she demonstrated to school council.

I have known Krista, as a neighbour and friend for about 10 years now. I’ve come to know her as a person of high integrity and intelligence, as well as a dedicated wife and mother, who has always been quite involved in her children’s education, and in addition, a very community minded person.
She along with her husband, Malcolm, and their four kids, came door to door in our subdivision of about 40 homes, in the spring of 2020, checking in with those they already knew, and introducing themselves to those whom they didn’t. This of course was a difficult time when many of us were trying to navigate our “new normal” during the early days of the pandemic. Many people at that time, including my husband and I, felt kind of isolated in our rural neighbourhood, and were trying to navigate our daily lives safely with the new guidelines and policies implemented by the provincial government. It all felt very strange and foreign at the time. Krista and her family took action, reaching out personally to all of their neighbours, asking people if they would be willing to participate in a neighbourhood support network where we would share our phone numbers and/or email addresses. This allowed neighbours to keep in touch with one another (at a safe distance) and be able to ask for help if we were in need, whether it be asking for someone to pick up a few groceries or meds if they were unable to go out due to illness, or perhaps just needed some help with snow removal. It was a kind and thoughtful gesture and it reminded us, that we don't live alone out here in the rural fringes of Sherwood Park - we live in a community with caring and thoughtful neighbours - now friends, who would be there to support us in practical ways if we needed any help at all.
This is just one example of Krista’s initiative, constructive nature and community spirit. I know her also to be a champion of public education and we could not do any better in our electoral subdivision, than Krista Scott as our EIPS trustee. Please go out and vote on October 20th for Krista Scott!

I’ve known Krista for almost 15 years as we’ve sat at the same tables advocating for education. Krista’s passion for equity, accountability, parental engagement and good governance in education is unmatched in anyone else I know. I’ve watched her build relationships with those she also demanded accountability from; whether at the school, division or provincial level. She asks excellent questions and seeks to understand so that she can advocate in students’ best interests.
Krista has high expectations for respectful dialogue, while simultaneously expecting accountability and answers to questions. I watched her skillfully navigate a meeting between parents and all relevant stakeholders during a challenging modernization. She ensured the questions were answered, that there were calls to action with specific people responsible for each and commitment to changes. In a heated meeting which could have easily devolved into chaos, she ensured respect was maintained and concerns were addressed in a way that each person walked out of the meeting committed to the changes.
I’ve seen her ask relevant questions to several ministers of education at Alberta School Councils’ Association conferences and debate advocacy resolutions during the AGM. She has led school councils and mentored other parents to understand the role of school councils, the EIPS Committee of School Councils, and the Alberta School Councils’ Association.
Krista has volunteered hundreds of hours in education over her almost two decades as a parent and EIPS is a better school division because of her passion and dedication. I am a better parent and advocate because of her example and her friendship.

When I met Krista, I was amazed at her involvement in the school at Fultonvale. Her unwavering commitment to the school, students and staff reflects her passion for the education system. Krista has spent endless hours volunteering in both school council and COSC meetings advocating for parents and students. I am confident Krista will bring the same passion and drive for her new role on the EIPS board.

Krista was my mentor, and oh what a mentor to have! I would come home from school council meetings beaming about her to my husband. I couldn't believe a mom would dedicate so much time and energy into a volunteer role a s school council chair. Krista believed that parent involvement in education was paramount and encouraged all parents to be active in their children's educational experiences. She worked hard to create coherent relationships with parents, teachers, ea's, school administrators, trustees...heck...she was on a first name basis with most division administrators! She understood policies and procedures as well as the people who created them, reading them as if they were a new best seller. She was never afraid to ask hard questions...or follow up questions...or ask for the recipient of said questions to please come back with a better answer if it was sub par. Krista's love of children, her years of dedication on multiple school councils, COSC and ASCA boards, her experience teaching in the public education system and her desire to engage parents all make her the perfect candidate for school board trustee. She continues to be a pertinent voice for parents in education and I look forward to watching her excel in this new chapter.

Krista Scott has made a lasting impact through her dedicated involvement with Strathcona Christian Academy, particularly in her role supporting parent engagement and school governance. As a mentor, Krista was instrumental in guiding me when I stepped into the role of School Council Chair. Her wisdom and encouragement helped me navigate the responsibilities of the position with confidence and clarity.
Krista emphasized the vital role parents play in partnering with school administration to support educational goals and student success. She taught me how to advocate effectively, ask the hard questions when necessary, and engage meaningfully with school leadership, trustees, and fellow parents. Through her mentorship, I gained a deeper understanding of the governance role of school council and the importance of creating space for all voices to be heard—especially during challenging conversations.
Her leadership and support have not only empowered me personally but have also strengthened the collaborative spirit between parents and the school community. Krista’s contributions continue to resonate, fostering a culture of openness, advocacy, and shared purpose at SCA.

I have been fortunate to work for and alongside a few outstanding leaders over a long public
sector and not for profit organization career. Krista Scott is one of these leaders.
Krista balances integrity, critical thinking, and a clear communication style with a sensitive spirit
to work effectively at any level of an organization. Krista combines these attributes with over 20
years’ experience in public education as a teacher, a parent on school councils, a member of
the EIPS Committee of School Councils, and as Director of the Alberta School Councils
Association. I look forward to seeing the valuable contribution Krista will make as Elk Island
Public Schools Trustee for Rural Strathcona County South of Wye Rd.
